Customization guide

Preparing a photo for a custom phone case

A few checks before upload can help your image work better on a narrow object with a camera cutout.

Start with the best original image you have

A source photo with clear detail generally gives a customization tool more to work with than a small screenshot or an image repeatedly saved from a chat app. If you can, upload the original photo rather than a compressed copy. Look at the main subject at full size: if the face, pet, or text already looks blurry, printing cannot restore missing detail.

There is no universal pixel number that guarantees a good case print. The useful image size depends on the case template, print area, crop, and the storefront's production specifications. Follow any image-quality warning shown by the actual customization tool.

Plan around the case shape

A phone case is tall and narrow, and its camera opening takes away part of the image. Photos with some space around the main subject are easier to position than images cropped tightly around a face. Keep important details away from the camera area, side edges, and corners.

Practical check: Place the important subject near the visual center of the usable area, not simply the center of the original photo. The case preview is what matters.

If you add words, keep them large enough to read in the final preview. Fine lines and tiny text may not be clear at case size; the store's preview and any stated print guidelines are the final reference.

Choose an editing path

Mood In Case's DIY Studio offers these three layout paths, checked September 24, 2026. Select a case and exact device model before judging the layout.

Which editing option fits your image?
OptionWhen to consider itWhat to review
Smart ArrangeYou want an initial suggested composition.Check the subject and the crop around the camera opening.
Manual AdjustYou need to control image position, scale, or rotation.Check faces, small details, and the full model-specific preview.
Studio ArrangeYou want the team to arrange the image from your instructions.State what must stay visible and what can be cropped.

The studio's current controls and order terms govern the available options. A layout preview does not guarantee exact printed color. Open the current studio and check your case →

Three common crop decisions

These are illustrative checks, not customer results or production tests.

A pet near the top of the photo

Check whether the ears or eyes approach the camera opening. Moving the subject down may remove part of the body at the bottom; compare both ends before accepting the crop. If there is too little background, another original photo may be easier to use.

Two people at opposite edges

A tall case may not accommodate a wide composition without cutting someone off. Reduce the scale if the editor permits it and decide whether the remaining background is acceptable. Do not assume a filled preview keeps the entire original image.

A word or date close to an edge

Check the lettering after all cropping and scaling. A readable original can become too small on the case. Keep every character inside the usable area and inspect the preview again after changing the device model.

Inspect the final preview, not just the upload

Before confirming a design, zoom in if the storefront allows it. Check whether faces, lettering, or meaningful background details are cut off. Look around the camera opening and compare the preview for the exact phone model you selected.

Screen colors and printed colors can differ. A preview helps you catch layout mistakes, but it is not a promise of exact color matching. Read any product-specific notes about print variation before ordering.

Check the product and order details

Mood In Case is the photo-personalization storefront in our brand portfolio. Use its current editor and product listing to confirm available phone models, case materials, design placement, price, processing time, shipping, and return terms. A custom photo does not override those product details.

  • Confirm the exact phone model and case type.
  • Check the final image crop and all visible text.
  • Read cancellation and return terms for a personalized item before checkout.
  • Save your order confirmation and contact the storefront with the order number if you need help.
